Village Soup

We took a day off to spend by the pool today. The weather was beautiful, so we couldn't really go wrong. We put together an amazing wild boar sausage and lentil soup for dinner. All of the soup ingredients were local as were the bread and wine. A perfect ending to a perfect day.

Here's the recipe for Village Soup:
Saute onion, garlic, fennel and celery until transparent. Throw into soup pot. Brown italian sausage (we used wild boar sausage from the local butcher) and add it to the soup pot also. Add several cups of water and a vegetable bouillon to taste. Rinse lentils and cook until soft. Add in cut up potatos and carrots and continue cooking until soft. The end result? A delicious dinner to share with the other guests and owners of Antica Vetreria.

Could it be just like camping . . . or does food really taste better in Italy?

Pet of the day. This cute little furball is Maya Mencarelli, the family dog of Colleen and Tom's Italian famly dog. Carlotta, L'Antica Vetreria's hostess who handles bookings and is on the right and her grandmother, Lea is on the left. She handles housekeeping and cooking.

An honorary monument in downtown Piegaro

These statues, in the piazza in Piegaro, were just installed last year.
