The Perfect Day - All about the food

This was the fellow at the table next to ours, while we enjoyed lemonada and cafes. He slept in the sun and took up the whole chair . . .

Driving into Panicale, with it's beautiful stone houses. Love the detail on the chimneys . . .

Panicale has lovely stone homes along these very narrow streets.

Lori daydreaming about dinner (120 orders away)

We started out slowly, waking up at 10 and getting our taste of the view and the ambience of the place. Colleen and Tom, our hosts, offered once again to take us on an adventure and we headed out to a small neighboring village, Castiglione del Lago, which is a gorgeous walled village that sat on the edge of one of the largest lakes in Italy, Lago Trasimeno. We ate an amazing lunch of pasta, greens with tuna and caprese. After lunch we decided to stroll down the village walk a ways for gelato and came upon Colleen's favorite wine shop. After picking out wine and salami and some of the wonderful black truffles that we've been enjoying on our pasta, we ended up at a cute little gelato shop and took our dessert to a stunning terrace in the back that overlooked the lake. The weather was low 80s and we were in heaven.

Back to reality and we were off to another small walled village, Panicale, where we enjoyed lemonada, cafe and the wonderful company of the village "gatto" . . .

We were back to L'Antica Vetreria with enough time to swim before dinner (still freezing, but bearable). Then, along with Colleen and Tom's just-arrived friends from Washington, we headed to Malfucci for seafood delights. An amazing selection of lake fish (maybe carp), sea fish, other seafoods, and deep-fried olives . . . we got there and waited through 120 other orders to get our dinner. Worth the wait.

  1. Sounds like this was a MUCH better day than yesterday. Claire loved the picture of the gatto, and is very impressed with your adventures in truffles. -CC
